History proponents speak out against budget cuts
At the October 20, 2008 council meeting, members of Wheaton's historical community pleaded with the City Council to keep the $225,000 that had been designated for the Center for History. The Council will likely remove the $225,000 as part of sweeping cuts to its budget, which otherwise could run a deficit estimated at $4.2 million.
As a member of the Wheaton Historic Commission, I have learned the important role the Center plays in our community and I support it. At the same time, I recognize the City has to make many tough decisions in order to balance the budget, and I understand its reasoning, even though I disagree.
